The Challenge

The Operations Manager, key part of the Operations Team juggles multiple interrelated tasks at once.

These include but are not limited to crew management, equipment maintenance and job planning.

Some of these tasks are repetitive and mundane. Oftentimes, the Operations Manager has to firefight to deliver on time.

Pre-design Prep Work & Feature Prioritization

Workshop on Landscaping industry with focus on Operations Manager’s role, crew, and equipment

Competitive Analysis of softwares Asset and Crew Control: they lack extensive mapping of property-wide features, which is the core feature of SiteRecon

Extracting Insights from Interview of Operations Manager by the CEO

Storyboarding of Operations Manager to understand touch points and pain points

Workshop artifacts: notes, user personas, storyboarding, rough flow and wireframes

Finalized User Flow

Iterate. Iterate. Iterate

For example, what should we optimize for in the job planning? the number of hours? the crew size? resources?
It took some tries to get to an optimal starting point.

Streamlining the Job Path

Using AI and the already captured property data, optimal path charting individual turfs on the property is generated
This creates the fastest path to finish a job, such as, mowing the turfs in this property.
Provision for Operations Manager to customize the path is also provided

Map of Turf feature represented by the green polygons, the blue line with yellow arrows represents the optimal path

Making it a breeze to Schedule

Jobs can be allocated and reallocated with ease, by adjusting or/and dragging the job bars in the Gantt Chart
This schedule can be printed easily and used on the field

Scheduling feature with simple and intuitive interface

Outcomes

Mockups and Prototype helped in presentations with prospective clients

One client onboarded for a pilot project. Client appreciated the task breakdown by service area and crew member

Increase in efficiency particularly in terms of time saved was observed

Feedback from Client: requested mobile version with less detailed map view focusing on tasks instead

Takeaways

Understanding users of a technical domain through workshops, user interviews, storyboarding was crucial for designing effective solutions

Having a singular focus through feature prioritization led to efficient and timely product development providing maximum ROI

Learnt the importance of developing an MVP and validating it before designed a full-fledged product
